There hasn’t been too much to shout about from Leeds’ pre-season venture to Australia and beyond.
The Whites came away from their tour having been on the end of a thrashing against Manchester United but then picked up a victory against Western Sydney Wanderers, although Kemar Roofe was a casualty.
They then impressively drew with Cagliari but there are still question marks going into the opening day regarding their attack and defence.
One area that shouldn’t be questioned is the midfield, particularly if Marcelo Bielsa makes a brave call on the opening weekend against Bristol City.
On the chalkboard
Leeds have seen Samu Saiz depart this summer whilst Mateusz Klich has also been linked with a move to Burnley.
That rumour seems to have died down but where there have been negatives surrounding the departure of Pontus Jansson and Roofe’s injury, there is a major shining light.
That happens to be Mateusz Bogusz who has made a considerable impact throughout Leeds’ pre-season and looks ready to make his Championship debut.
He popped up with a goal against Western Sydney Wanderers, afforded a chance in front of the injured Adam Forshaw. On that evidence, it wouldn’t be a great surprise if he was to eventually dislodge one of the more experienced professionals in the starting XI.
At just 17 years of age, the Pole hasn’t looked shy and earned rave reviews from The Yorkshire Evening Post as Lee Sobot described him as a player “brimming with pace, confidence and natural talent.”
Yet, the superlatives didn’t stop there. Sobot also said: “The teen looked as if he was a Whites regular, never mind a 17-year-old who has yet to even make a competitive appearance in English football.”
If there was ever a series of quotes that summed up why Biela should be playing someone, this is it.

Bogusz has shown himself to be a tremendous player in pre-season and should help to add an extra threat in terms of creativity and goals.
In his short career to date, he already has five senior goals for Ruch Chorzow in the third tier of Polish football.
Bielsa’s squad during the tour to Australia included just 16 players and out of all of them, the teenager was one of the most impressive and looks thoroughly up to speed already.
The Argentine has to make a big call and entrust him to start on the opening weekend.
