da dobrowin: Wolves’ talented wing-back Ruben Vinagre is attracting the interest of both Barcelona and Liverpool according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo. But if official bids do come in then Wolves must swat them away.
What’s the word?
O Jogo claims that both Liverpool and Barcelona have a keen interest in the player who only joined Wolves permanently as recently as last summer from Monaco. He had previously been on loan at the Midlands club but could be on his way out already.
The report claims that Jurgen Klopp spoke to the player after their FA Cup clash with Wolves a few months ago whilst Barcelona are monitoring him by sending scouts to watch him in action.
He hasn’t featured on too many occasions this term but did come off the bench as Nuno Santo’s men crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Watford last weekend.
Vinagre is valued at £5m, per Transfermarkt, but it is unknown what kind of fee Wolves would command for his services.
How to accommodate Vinagre
There’s no denying how good Jonny has been since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid. He even became what was then a club-record signing of £18m.
But if they are to prevent a player with even more potential from leaving the club then Jonny must be moved aside from his left wing-back position.
The Spaniard has been a key part of the way Nuno has got his team playing but considering the potential Vinagre possesses has to be playing more.
A result of keeping the 20-year-old at the club should see Jonny moved over to right wing back. He is an extremely versatile player and has the capability to play on either flank. However, he has mainly been utilised out on the left since arriving in England.
Wolves Fan TV place the blame for Wolves’ FA Cup semi-final collapse on John Ruddy in the video below…
However, inconsistent displays from Matt Doherty should mean that Jonny gets his chance on the right and as a consequence, sees Vinagre afforded more starts.
Given that massive clubs in Liverpool and Barcelona are chasing him, Wolves must fast-track his way to the first team and show he can develop at the club if they’re to have any hope of keeping him.
