da supremo: Lassana Diarra could be the answer to West Ham’s problems, it’s just a shame they can’t sign him yet. The midfielder is a free agent after being sacked by his former club Locomotiv Moscow and he has been training with West Ham in order to earn himself a deal at the club.
da stake casino: West Ham expressed an interest in signing the French international on a deal that would run until the end of the season. However, Fifa regulations blocked the move and Sam Allardyce was left feeling disappointed:
“The fact we couldn’t get the Lassana Diarra deal across the line was probably more my fault than his.
“I thought it was a simple contract cancellation — but it wasn’t as straightforward as that. Maybe I should have investigated the circumstances more thoroughly before we negotiated for more than three weeks” he told the Evening Standard.
“It turned out it wasn’t a mutual contract cancellation between Lassana and his previous club, Lokomotiv Moscow, and didn’t fulfil the Fifa criteria on signing players outside the transfer window.”
Although Allardyce was prevented from signing the player this season, a move could still be made for the 29-year-old in the summer.

It is understandable why the Hammers wanted to add Diarra to their ranks. The midfielder has played for the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid, where he has built a reputation as a powerful holding midfielder with an eye for a pass. His quality would have been a good addition to the West Ham midfield and a potential partnership with Alex Song in the middle of the park would have been a strong combination.
In the Hammers’ recent defeat to West Brom in the FA Cup, the midfield was almost non-existent. Dropping Cheikou Kouyate back into defence was something that had to be done by Allardyce. However, losing the Senegalese man’s endless energy in the middle of the park has really cost West Ham in terms of asserting their influence on matches. The midfield looks lethargic, lacking any real sense of urgency.
This is why Sam Allardyce would have been desperate to add a player of Diarra’s quality into the side for the rest of the season. The squad has started to pick up a number of injuries heading well into the latter half of the campaign and Allardyce saw Diarra as an excellent option in terms of adding extra quality as well as further strength in depth to the West Ham midfield.
The Irons will want to finish the season on a high as they look like they have lost their way in recent weeks. Although Diarra will not be featuring for the club at any point this season, Allardyce will feel that he has enough quality at his disposal to really challenge for a Europa League finish. The recent addition of former Paris Saint-Germain winger Nene is a bit of a gamble from the club’s hierarchy.
However, if he can replicate the goalscoring form that he showcased at PSG, West Ham could have made a shrewd signing. The 33-year-old may be past his best but he does add further quality to a West Ham attack that will be without Andy Carroll for the rest of the season.
Although a player like Diarra would have been a great addition for the Hammers, with a bit of luck their current crop of players can turn results around and replicate their early-season form that was so exciting to watch.
