Many Everton fans on Twitter would target a move for Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen following his display in his side’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat against Chelsea at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday.
The 23-year-old has been a standout performer for the Tigers in recent seasons, and has 17 goals and five assists in 31 appearances in all competitions for the Championship club this term.
The right-sided attacker will feel he should have added to his goal tally against the Premier League outfit too having attempted six shots, although only one of them was on target as per WhoScored.
Bowen also successfully completed two dribbles and made one key pass, but couldn’t prevent the hosts falling to a defeat.
His record in 2019/20 and his performance against Frank Lampard’s men clearly caught the attentions of Everton supporters on Twitter though, with The Gwladys Street fan account asking fellow supporters whether the Merseyside outfit should be looking at the forward as a potential signing.
Some made their opinions pretty clear, with one suggesting that they should be looking to sign the best players in the Championship.
Two more individuals chose to compare the 23-year-old to Toffees winger Theo Walcott, who like Bowen plays on the right-hand side.
The former Arsenal man has two goal involvements compared to the Championship man’s 22 this season, so it is hardly surprising that supporters are suggesting he would be an upgrade.
Call yourself an Everton expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
Indeed, director of football Marcel Brands confirmed at the club’s AGM earlier this month that they lack depth onthe right flank.
Another felt that while Bowen is clearly a good player, the club should still be aiming for someone better if they really want to be pushing on to be a top-six or top-four side.
That is probably a fair point in general, but when you look at how well someone like James Maddison has done for Leicester City following his move from the Championship – WhoScored reported in August 2019 that he had made more key passes (102) than any other Premier League player since the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign – it shows it can be done.
