da pinnacle: Turkish giants Fenerbahce could swoop for Mesut Ozil in January after he fell out with Arsenal boss Unai Emery, according to The Daily Mail.
What’s the word?
da bwin: After a disappointing World Cup performance, Mesut Ozil has never strayed too far from the headlines as a sequence of events have followed – including his retirement from Germany’s national side and a poor start to the season with Arsenal.
The 29-year-old, rated at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, has struggled to adjust to the work ethic demanded by new boss Unai Emery and was dropped for last month’s victory over West Ham and was hooked in the second half of the victory over Cardiff City prior to the international break.
According to The Daily Mail, Ozil is unhappy after being utilised on the right flank rather than his preferred number ten role and Turkish outlet Fotomac suggest that Fenerbahce lead the charge for his services – although they may struggle to meet Arsenal’s £42m demands.
Should he go?
Arsenal are in a sticky situation with Mesut Ozil, as it is clear he is far from his best at the moment but he has the capability to be the shining light for the Gunners – albeit the baggage he carries from the World Cup is a problem.

However, while fans call for his head, they should take a moment to imagine themselves in Ozil’s shoes after he has continuously been criticised following the World Cup, and has been shunned by international colleagues who insist there is no racism in the squad and have completely missed the key points of his statement.
It is clear Ozil’s confidence is at rock bottom and he needs to be closely monitored over the course of the coming weeks, but a boost could be provided from a favourable run of fixtures that lie ahead, if Emery can find a role that will get the best out of the German.
