da dobrowin: Manchester United should bring the in-form Javier Hernandez back to Old Trafford in January to compete with the misfiring Romelu Lukaku and offer a different dimension upfront.
What’s the word, then?
The Mexican poacher has rediscovered his form at West Ham this season after a period of inconsistency in east London last season, scoring just eight goals in 28 league appearances.
This season, however, Hernandez has notched four goals in just six Premier League starts, shining in Marko Arnautovic’s absence up top ahead of Felipe Anderson and Robert Snodgrass. His trademark predatory instincts are showing no signs of rustiness, and his movement in the penalty box is still arguably up there with the best in England.
Manuel Pellegrini will not want to lose one of his star strikers, especially not in January, but the 30-year-old forward may be tempted by a return to his old club who now have one of the best poachers in Premier League history at the helm in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Why would United want him?
The Red Devils currently have Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez who can play up top, who are all top class players on paper. However, at the moment, all of them are struggling for form or consistency.
With just six goals in the league this season, Belgian forward Lukaku is particularly out of sorts and is not a man that you can rely on at the moment, as a result of his woeful first touch and wasteful finishing.
Sanchez has made just five starts and doesn’t appear to be fully committed to the cause at Old Trafford; meanwhile, Rashford is perhaps their current best option, but needs an arm round the shoulder after a tough time under Jose Mourinho.
United lack a predatory poacher such as Hernandez within their ranks, someone who can sniff a goal out of nothing even when he isn’t involved in the play too much – he could be the club’s modern day Solskjaer, managed by the man himself.
