da betway: According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have a “serious and strong interest” in signing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero this summer.
da bet7k: Blues boss Antonio Conte wants to sign a new centre-forward before the start of the new season after telling Diego Costa that he is no longer part of his plans.
The Premier League holders have already missed out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United and the Italian will need to find an alternative target as the club looks to retain their top flight title and compete on their return to the Champions League group stages next term.
Sky Sports reports that Aguero is a possible target, and the 29-year-old certainly comes with great pedigree having scored 122 goals in 181 Premier League appearances for City, and 169 in 253 outings in total.
However, there are other ways in which he isn’t the new striker the west London outfit needs.
Here are three reasons Chelsea should steer clear of signing Aguero…
A deal would be difficult
While Chelsea may be keen on Sergio Aguero and the player could jump at the chance of staying in the Premier League and being the first-choice striker at Stamford Bridge, doing a deal with Manchester City would be difficult.
While it seems obvious that Gabriel Jesus was Pep Guardiola’s preferred option up top last term, City will have plenty of matches this season and Aguero will get his fair share of game time – as he did during the previous campaign when Jesus was injured.
City will also be reluctant to do business with their top flight title rivals, and the Blues may be better off switching their attentions to a more realistic target.
Style of play
Chelsea’s style of play in recent years has often been revolved around a big and physical striker such as Didier Drogba or Diego Costa, and signing the 5’8” Aguero to play as a lone centre-forward would certainly be different for the Blues.
Whether Conte is willing to go all out to do that rather than attempting to sign the likes of Alvaro Morata, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Andrea Belotti – who would be more adapted to the system – remains to be seen and it would certainly be a big gamble in what is going to be a hugely important season.
Injury record/Temperament
While Aguero hasn’t had too many serious injuries during his time with City, he does seem to have had a lot of niggles that have kept him out for weeks at a time and that would be a worry for Antonio Conte if he was to splash out on the 29-year-old.
Additionally, one of the reasons the Italian will be keen to get rid of Costa is because of his temperament – although it has improved recently – and he would have been concerned to see Aguero lose his head against his team last term, picking up a red card in the last minute for a dreadful challenge on David Luiz and a four-match suspension in the process.
